About the position

The Culinary Aide position at Sauk Prairie Healthcare is a per diem role focused on supporting the preparation, service, and delivery of meals for patients and café services. This position is designed for individuals who can work flexibly to cover shifts as needed, ensuring food safety and quality while providing excellent customer service. The role is ideal for entry-level candidates, including high school students, and offers varied hours with a holiday and weekend rotation.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and serve patient meals, ensuring food is attractive, fresh, and at a safe temperature.
  • Assist patients with menu choices and dietary needs.
  • Perform cafeteria duties including cashiering, serving, and cleaning.
  • Stock coolers and kitchenettes as assigned.
  • Assist with food and supply ordering and inventory management.
  • Help with daily food preparation as needed.
  • Follow specific timelines and instructions for job tasks.
  • Manage preparation and service for catered functions and special events.
  • Wash dishes and maintain cleanliness in the kitchen and café area.
  • Communicate with other departments regarding patient diets and preferences.
  • Collect garbage and recyclables for proper disposal.
  • Answer patient room service calls and prepare trays accordingly.
  • Prepare snacks for patients and interview them about their dietary preferences.
  • Adhere to food safety regulations for all food handling processes.
  • Label food items according to regulations and department guidelines.
  • Set individual goals in coordination with department objectives.

Requirements

  • Some high school education with the ability to read and write.
  • No prior experience required, but preferred experience includes operating a cash register and working in a similar position for 6 to 12 months.
  • Servsafe or equivalent food safety training certification preferred, obtained within the past five years.

  • High school diploma or GED preferred.
