About the position

Olympic College is seeking dedicated adjunct faculty to teach Culinary Arts and Hospitality Management courses. The position offers a unique opportunity to engage with students in a hands-on kitchen environment, utilizing various delivery modes including fully face-to-face, hybrid, and fully online classes. The ideal candidate will be committed to student-centered learning and fostering an equitable and inclusive educational environment. In this role, faculty will prepare and teach courses in Culinary Arts and Hospitality Management, creating engaging learning environments that facilitate student success. Responsibilities include planning and developing instructional classrooms, online environments, and labs, as well as identifying individual learning needs and making necessary adjustments to enhance learning experiences. Faculty will also utilize a variety of assessment activities to evaluate student learning and achievement, ensuring that they stay current in the field through professional development activities. The position requires a commitment to teaching students with varying levels of experience, from those with little or no background to those seeking to advance their careers. Successful candidates will demonstrate a track record of employing culturally-responsive pedagogy and will be expected to support diversity in higher education through the application of inclusive teaching practices. Faculty will also be responsible for collaborating with colleagues and maintaining effective communication with students and staff to foster a positive educational environment.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and teach Culinary Arts and Hospitality Management courses.
  • Create engaging teaching and learning environments that facilitate student success.
  • Plan, develop, and set up instructional classrooms, online environments, and labs.
  • Identify individual learning needs of students and make appropriate adjustments in learning environments and activities.
  • Utilize a variety of assessment activities to evaluate student learning and achievement.
  • Stay current in the information technology field through a variety of professional development activities.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned and/or required.

Requirements

  • Associate Degree in Culinary Arts, related field, or equivalent experience.
  • Competence and experience in a wide range of culinary arts and Hospitality Management topics.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience as a chef at a full-service restaurant.
  • Experience managing a hospitality enterprise.
  • Bachelor's Degree in a related field.
  • Successful college teaching experience.
  • Competency-based curriculum development experience.
  • Experience teaching online.
