About the position

The Staff Cultural Resources Specialist at Burns & McDonnell is responsible for leading project studies, surveys, and construction monitoring related to cultural resources across various projects in the Southwest Region. This role involves planning, coordinating, and facilitating activities from project conception to completion, ensuring client satisfaction and adherence to quality and safety standards. The specialist will also engage in proposal development, contract negotiations, and project planning, while providing leadership and guidance to junior staff members.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, coordinate, and facilitate cultural resources activities for projects from concept through completion.
  • Serve as Client Coordinator for target clients, ensuring ultimate delivery of services and client satisfaction.
  • Identify project opportunities early and facilitate go/no-go decisions in cooperation with office leadership.
  • Identify new market and client opportunities and key projects to maximize selection chances.
  • Supervise field efforts and technical reporting, adhering to quality control and safety programs.
  • Provide leadership, guidance, and instruction to less experienced staff members.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in a related field from an accredited program required.
  • Master's Degree in anthropology/archeology or related field is highly preferred.
  • Minimum 4 years of related experience in construction monitoring, field investigations, and archaeological excavation; 8 years preferred.
  • Experience in Colorado and other western states.
  • Permitted with Forest Service, BLM, and other entities.
  • Knowledge of federal and state regulations relating to historic preservation, such as the National Historic Preservation Act.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills for technical reports and proposal writing.
  • Demonstrated ability to work as an effective team member.
  • High level of attention to detail.
  • Ability to operate various types of GPS equipment.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook, Access, SharePoint).
  • Ability to adjust to rapidly changing work environments and research approaches.
  • Valid driver's license required.

Nice-to-haves

  • Prior consulting experience is a plus.
