About the position

The Cultural Resources Specialist at Burns & McDonnell is responsible for leading project studies and surveys, conducting construction monitoring, and performing archaeological excavations across various projects in the Southwest Region. This role emphasizes collaboration with clients and internal teams to ensure project success from inception to completion, while adhering to safety and quality standards.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct and lead project studies and surveys related to cultural resources.
  • Perform construction monitoring and archaeological excavation activities.
  • Plan, coordinate, and facilitate cultural resources components of projects.
  • Collaborate with internal and external clients to ensure project success.
  • Assist in proposal development and contract negotiations.
  • Supervise field efforts and prepare technical reports.
  • Identify project opportunities and facilitate go/no-go decisions.
  • Provide leadership and guidance to less experienced staff members.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in a related field from an accredited program required.
  • Master's Degree in anthropology/archeology or related field is highly preferred.
  • Minimum 4 years of related experience in construction monitoring and archaeological field work.
  • Experience in Colorado and other western states is preferred.
  • Knowledge of federal and state regulations relating to historic preservation.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills for technical reports and proposals.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook, Access, SharePoint).
  • Ability to operate various types of GPS equipment.

Nice-to-haves

  • Prior consulting experience in cultural resources management.
  • Experience with Forest Service, BLM, and other entities.
  • Knowledge of anthropology and archaeology methods and practices.
