About the position

The Cumberland Valley School District (CVSD) is seeking Food Services Substitutes to support the operations of the school kitchen and cafeteria. This role is essential in ensuring that the food service team functions smoothly, allowing for seamless transitions between various positions such as head cook, cashier, dishwasher, and food prep. The Food Services Substitutes will work under the direction of the designated school district Team Leader and may be required to perform a variety of supportive functions based on the daily needs of the environment. This flexibility is crucial as it allows the team to maintain efficiency and meet the demands of the school community. Food service staff will be responsible for assisting with the preparation, maintenance, and breakdown of the cafeteria serving line, ensuring a clean and organized work area for serving meals. They will also oversee the collection of payments from students for school meals, provide quality customer service, and maintain accurate records. Collaboration with other members of the Department/Building is vital to meet the goals and objectives that support the District's mission. The role requires a commitment to maintaining high standards of food safety and sanitation, as well as a dedication to providing excellent service to students and staff alike. The essential functions of this position include preparing and serving food items, maintaining food service facilities and equipment, and ensuring compliance with health standards. The Food Services Substitutes will also be expected to attend training sessions and meetings to stay informed about best practices and operational procedures. Responsibilities

  • Assist with the preparation, maintenance, and breakdown of the cafeteria serving line.
  • Provide a clean work area for serving food.
  • Oversee the collection of payments from students for school meals.
  • Deliver quality customer service and maintain accurate record keeping.
  • Work collaboratively with other food service staff to meet departmental goals.
  • Arrange food and beverage items and set up equipment for serving.
  • Attend unit meetings and training sessions to gather necessary information for job functions.
  • Clean utensils, equipment, and food preparation areas to maintain sanitary conditions.
  • Evaluate prepared food items for quality and compliance with health standards.
  • Inspect food items and supplies for quantity and quality verification.
  • Inventory food and supplies to ensure availability for menu requirements.
  • Maintain equipment and food service areas in a sanitary condition.
  • Monitor kitchen and cafeteria areas for safety and sanitation.
  • Perform functions of other nutritional services positions as requested by the supervisor.
  • Prepare food and beverage items to meet nutritional and meal requirements.
  • Practice in accordance with the Substitute Teacher Service, Inc. Paraprofessional Handbook policies.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent education.
  • Serve-safe certification preferred, but not required.
  • Clean Pennsylvania Criminal Records check (Act 34) less than 1 year old.
  • Clean Pennsylvania Child Abuse Clearance History (Act 151) less than 1 year old.
  • Clean FBI Criminal History Record less than 1 year old.
  • Proof of a TB test or chest x-ray that is less than 3 months old.
  • 3 professional references and/or letters of recommendation.
  • Resume detailing relevant experience.
  • Routing number and account number for direct deposit setup.
  • 2 valid forms of identification for I-9 verification.
  • A valid, working email address for communication.
