About the position
The Curator at The Wolfsonian is responsible for cataloging, researching, interpreting, publishing, and caring for the museum's collection. This role involves developing exhibitions, advocating for the collection, and engaging with various constituencies. The Curator will also participate in strategic planning and fundraising efforts, while promoting the collection through tours, lectures, and publications.
Responsibilities
- Catalog and research the museum's collection.
- Develop exhibitions in a team setting, including interpretative planning and budgeting.
- Serve as an advocate and spokesperson for the collection.
- Provide reference and interpretative services to various constituencies.
- Conduct tours and deliver public lectures.
- Participate in the Acquisition Committee for proposed donations.
- Collaborate on institutional programs and policy development activities.
- Travel regionally, nationally, and internationally for research and exhibition development.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in a related discipline.
- Three years of experience in a related field.
- Museum curatorial experience with a track record of innovative exhibitions.
Nice-to-haves
- Master's or PhD degree in art history, design history, architectural history, history, or material culture studies.
- Reading knowledge of a foreign language related to The Wolfsonian's collecting areas.
