About the position

The Current Planner I position at the Macon-Bibb County Planning & Zoning Commission involves addressing current planning issues within the Zoning Department. The role requires the incumbent to demonstrate professionalism and provide excellent customer service while reviewing development proposals, preparing technical reports, and assisting citizens with zoning regulations.

Responsibilities

• Review development proposals and prepare detailed technical reports.
• Attend public hearings regarding assigned projects and write staff reports.
• Communicate with citizens, architects, developers, and engineers regarding zoning regulations.
• Provide information related to zoning and general plan compliance, both in person and over the phone.
• Calculate acreages and frontages for development proposals.
• Review commercial, industrial, and residential development proposals for zoning clearances.
• Process permit applications and calculate appropriate fees.
• Prepare and deliver agenda reports on development proposals and land use issues.
• Review applications and submitted plans for various building permits.
• Participate in staff and development review meetings to discuss projects with peers and staff.
• Input planning information into databases and develop related reports.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in planning, geography, architecture, public administration, or a related field.
• Minimum of one (1) year of progressively responsible technical level planning experience.
• Valid Georgia driver's license in good standing.
• Ability to pass a pre-employment drug screen and background checks.
