About the position

We're seeking a talented Editor to join our expanding, multi-publication editorial team in Northeast Ohio. LifeStone Discipleship Ministries was founded with a mission: to inspire and empower disciples to create more disciples. Driven by our devotion to Christ, we are committed to making the Word of God easier and more accessible to families and churches of all sizes and backgrounds. Our offerings include a range of biblically sound literature and resources, fully designed to help individuals and groups grow closer to Christ. LifeStone has been publishing Sunday School and Christian discipleship literature for 120 years. Included in our publications are an outstanding K-12 and Adult Bible curriculum, a Christian school Bible curriculum series, and an innovative adult discipleship periodical, Amplify Christ. We are also expanding our reach into multiple digital and Christian education ventures. Our literature is broadly evangelical, holding to the historic fundamentals of the faith. Responsibilities

  • Edit and sometimes write Bible curriculum for Christian schools and homeschool, preschool-12th grade with an emphasis on 1st-6th.
  • Correct errors of theology, logic, accuracy, and style, as well as grammar and punctuation where appropriate, often involving research in online, digital, and print sources.
  • Edit with strong attention to detail, knowledge of good grammar and style (in accordance with both Chicago and LifeStone's house style), sound organizational skills, respect for authors, and an increasing familiarity with the editing process.
  • Edit and write appropriately for different ages, between 4 and 18.
  • Ensure written work shows biblical soundness, creativity, good organization, and logical reasoning.
  • Reflect a broad biblical knowledge and theological accuracy in editing and writing.
  • Avoid stirring up sectarian controversies in written work.
  • Provide cogent biblical exposition and down-to-earth explanations of scriptural truth.
  • Offer relevant and appropriate practical applications of Scripture and biblical teaching.
  • Demonstrate excellent written communication that is accessible to ordinary believers.
  • Perform additional tasks necessary for the success of the organization.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's, Graduate, or Post-Graduate degree in relevant field (English, journalism, early childhood education, biblical studies, ministry-related, etc.) and/or commensurate editorial experience.
  • Skilled in grammar, proofreading, writing, and creative thinking, with the ability to craft and/or edit content tailored to different platforms and audiences.
  • Experience with K-12 editing, writing, or teaching (K-6 preferred).
  • Proficiency in editorial and writing tools and platforms.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Time management skills to complete tasks within a promised time frame.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proven Christian commitment.
  • Theologically conservative to fit our evangelical ethos and company culture (see LifeStone Discipleship Ministries Statement of Faith).
  • Passion for others to know Christ and for the LifeStone mission.
