About the position

The Curriculum / Instructional Designer is responsible for creating engaging learning activities, course content, and assessments tailored to meet the educational needs of Laboratory and Government personnel. This role involves collaboration with subject matter experts and the application of instructional design theories to enhance the learning process through multimedia tools and computer-based training modules.

Responsibilities

  • Develops and presents education materials in various formats to meet Laboratory and Government requirements through lesson plans, courses, and slide presentations.
  • Schedules briefings/classes, organizes external and internal speakers, advertises education events, maintains the security education website, tracks databases, and forecasts future education requirements.
  • Conducts security incident trends analysis to identify ways to improve education needs for all Laboratory personnel.
  • Creates and implements security education programs tailored to the specific needs of the DoD, including Computer Based Training, presentations, posters, pamphlets, and other means of conveying security relevant information.
  • Coordinates training sessions and workshops on security protocols, procedures, and best practices.
  • Ensures that all personnel are educated on classified information handling, cybersecurity measures, physical security protocols, and other relevant topics.
  • Collaborates with internal stakeholders to assess training needs and address any gaps in industrial security knowledge or compliance.
  • Monitors and evaluates the effectiveness of security education programs through assessments and feedback mechanisms.
  • Stays up to date on changes in security regulations, policies, and threats to continuously improve educational materials.
  • Provides guidance and support to personnel regarding security awareness and compliance issues.
  • Plans and executes all aspects of the Annual Security Education and Awareness Month.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in instructional design, education, or similar (or at least 5 years of proven experience)
  • Experience with public speaking to a variety of small and large audiences
  • Experience with eLearning authoring software (Articulate 360 is preferred)
  • Experience with Learning Management Systems (SAP preferred)
  • Advanced experience with Microsoft Office Suite, specifically PowerPoint.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience creating instructional content specifically in the security space
  • Any previous experience in the DoD space or with government regulations
  • The ability to read, understand, and apply government regulation, policies, and procedures from the National Industrial Security Program Operating Manual (NISPOM), 32 CFR Part 117.
