The Custodian position at Davidson County Schools involves performing manual labor that encompasses a variety of housekeeping and minor building maintenance tasks. The role requires the use of various tools and light equipment to ensure the cleanliness and upkeep of school facilities. Responsibilities include cleaning floors, windows, and restrooms, as well as replacing simple bulbs and paper supplies. The custodian is also responsible for building security and may engage in routine grounds maintenance. Employees in this role will work in both indoor and outdoor environments and may be exposed to various hazards, including loud noises, vibrations, moving mechanical parts, electrical currents, chemicals, and human body fluids, necessitating adherence to OSHA requirements regarding bloodborne pathogens. The work is performed under regular supervision, with evaluations based on observation and inspection to assess the thoroughness of task completion. Essential job functions include vacuuming, mopping, sweeping, dusting, cleaning restrooms and fixtures, shampooing carpets, and buffing and waxing floors. The custodian will stock restrooms with necessary paper products and soap, replace bulbs and fuses, and perform minor plumbing repairs. Additional maintenance tasks involve removing leaves and debris, cleaning sidewalks and parking lots, locking and unlocking buildings, setting up rooms for meetings, moving furniture, hauling off trash, and ensuring that heating and air conditioning systems are functioning properly. The custodian will also operate power tools such as vacuum cleaners and steam cleaners, maintaining an inventory of cleaning supplies. Other related tasks may be assigned by the Principal as needed.
