The Custodian 2 position at LSU is a vital role within the custodial crew responsible for maintaining the cleanliness and sanitary conditions of the University and its grounds. This position requires working in various facilities with diverse functions, ensuring that all areas are kept in optimal condition. The custodian will perform a range of housekeeping tasks, manual labor, and other activities necessary for the efficient operation of the campus. This includes cleaning offices, classrooms, laboratories, residence hall lobbies, bathrooms, stairwells, elevators, hallways, and other assigned areas. The cleaning tasks involve sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, scrubbing, dusting, and polishing, as well as mixing or blending routine cleaning solutions to the proper concentration. In addition to general cleaning duties, the custodian will be responsible for emptying trash and recycling containers, transporting waste materials to appropriate outdoor refuse or recycling containers, and handling hazardous materials as required. The role also includes performing floor maintenance and special cleaning tasks, such as stripping, waxing, and polishing floors, as well as carpet cleaning using industrial-grade machines. The custodian will need to operate various equipment, including wet/dry vacuums and carpet extraction machines, to ensure all areas are clean and well-maintained. The position also involves moving and rearranging office furniture, fixtures, and lab equipment, as well as setting up tables and chairs for special events. The custodian will wash building exteriors, windows, walls, and sidewalks using power washers and other related equipment. Security responsibilities include unlocking and locking campus buildings and ensuring the security of all keys issued as part of the daily assignment. The custodian will also maintain and clean the equipment used in their duties and report any maintenance or safety hazards to their supervisor.
