The Scituate School Department is seeking a dedicated custodian for the Hope Elementary School, with a part-time commitment of 20 hours per week. The working hours are scheduled from Monday to Friday, specifically from 4 PM to 8 PM. The custodian will play a crucial role in maintaining a clean, safe, and sanitary environment for students and staff. This position may also involve a shift differential depending on the work schedule. The custodian will be responsible for opening and closing the building, ensuring that all areas are secure and ready for use. This includes unlocking doors, turning on lights, checking heating systems, and making rounds to check for any vandalism or damage. The custodian will also report any maintenance or repair needs to the appropriate personnel. Daily responsibilities include sweeping, mopping, scrubbing, and polishing floors, as well as vacuuming rugs and carpets. The custodian will clean restrooms, replenish supplies, and manage waste disposal by emptying wastebaskets and recycling bins. Additional cleaning tasks involve washing walls, windows, fountains, and blackboards/whiteboards, as well as replacing burnt-out light bulbs and dusting furniture and woodwork. The custodian will also be responsible for moving and arranging tables and chairs, performing setup and breakdown for events, and operating various custodial equipment such as scrubbers, polishers, vacuum cleaners, and more. During the summer months, weekends, and school vacations, the custodian will participate in thorough cleaning of the school plant, which includes washing walls, cleaning light fixtures, and stripping and waxing floors. The role also requires monitoring heating and cooling systems, performing light landscaping duties, and conducting minor plumbing and electrical work as needed. The custodian will work under the direction of the head custodian, principal, and director of operations, and must be able to follow simple oral and written instructions, carry and move light loads, and operate custodial equipment safely. This position is essential for ensuring that the school environment remains conducive to learning and development for all students.
