About the position

The Custodian position is a full-time role within the City and County of San Francisco, responsible for performing routine manual cleaning tasks in various public buildings and facilities. This role is essential for maintaining cleanliness and order in environments such as schools, libraries, and parks, contributing to the overall quality of life for residents and visitors. The position requires flexibility in working hours, including the possibility of day, swing, or graveyard shifts, and may involve working on weekends and holidays.

Responsibilities

• Sweep, scrub, mop, spot, and wax floors; vacuum and clean rugs and carpets.
• Clean, dust, and polish cabinets, furniture, and woodwork; empty and clean waste receptacles and ashtrays.
• Clean stairways and hallways; disinfect restrooms and replenish supplies; perform minor plumbing duties.
• Clean offices, lobbies, ceilings, walls, window shades, light fixtures, and venetian blinds.
• Assist in moving and arranging furniture and equipment.
• Turn out lights and lock doors and windows.
• Operate scrubbers, buffers, waxers, and related electrical appliances and equipment.
• Clean auditoriums, gymnasiums, clubhouses, and locker rooms; pick up rubbish in play areas.
• Wash interior glass partitions and windows that are easily reachable.
• Supervise and maintain order among students during recess periods as a school custodian.

Requirements

• Six months of verifiable paid full-time custodial or janitorial experience in a commercial building or facility.
• Certificate of Completion of a Custodial Training Program equivalent to those certified by the City and County of San Francisco Human Services Agency.
• Verification of current enrollment in a Custodial Training course equivalent to those certified by the City and County of San Francisco Human Services Agency.
