About the position

The Custodian position at Putnam County School District is responsible for maintaining a clean, safe, and attractive environment for students, staff, and the public. This role involves performing cleaning duties, minor repairs, and preventive maintenance, as well as arranging equipment and furniture for various activities and events. The custodian will also serve as a role model for students and ensure that facilities are operational and secure.

Responsibilities

• Serve as a role model for students, dressing and grooming professionally.
• Arrange furnishings and equipment for meetings, classroom activities, and special events.
• Clean assigned school or District facilities including classrooms, offices, restrooms, and grounds.
• Complete employer-required training to maintain current knowledge of rules and regulations.
• Distribute supplies and equipment to appropriate parties and locations.
• Execute minor repairs to ensure items are in safe working condition.
• Inform students, staff, and visitors about activities and safety.
• Inspect facilities to ensure they are clean and suitable for safe operations.
• Maintain supplies and equipment necessary for proper facility upkeep.
• Oversee students assigned to cafeteria or other duties.
• Assist with the timely completion of special projects.
• Prepare facilities for daily operations depending on the shift.
• Provide assistance to schedule facility usage accurately.
• Respond to immediate safety and operational concerns.
• Secure facilities and grounds to minimize property damage and liability.
• Perform all other duties as assigned by administrators.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED) preferred.
• Valid Florida Driver's License and acceptable driving record.
• Satisfactory criminal background check.
• Prior custodial experience preferred.
• Ability to read and interpret safety rules and procedure manuals.
• Knowledge of Human Resource leave systems and inventory systems (if applicable).
• Ability to work as part of a team and use problem-solving skills.

• Experience with Skyward inventory system.
