About the position

The Chief Custodian at Solley Elementary is responsible for overseeing the cleaning and maintenance of the facility to ensure a safe and sanitary environment for students and staff. This role includes operating mechanical equipment, performing minor repairs, and supervising custodial staff. The Chief Custodian plays a vital role in maintaining the school's cleanliness and safety standards while also managing various operational tasks.

Responsibilities

• Participates, plans, and supervises the general cleaning of the assigned facility.
• Operates boilers and maintains a variety of mechanical equipment.
• Makes minor plumbing, electrical, and custodial equipment repairs.
• Performs cleaning and inspects facilities and grounds for safety and sanitation standards.
• Operates heating, air conditioning, and ventilating equipment to maintain a comfortable interior climate.
• Opens, closes, and locks buildings and gates, or assigns tasks to subordinates.
• Assists the principal in preparing work requests.
• Maintains records of area inspections, inventory, training, and equipment maintenance.
• Instructs employees in the proper use of building services, supplies, equipment, and cleaning procedures.
• Oversees and participates in the snow removal program.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or Equivalency Certificate required.
• Three years of minor building maintenance repair experience required.
• Three years of AACPS Custodian I experience required.
• One year of heating and cooling equipment experience preferred.
• Two years of professional cleaning experience preferred.
• One year of supervisory and/or lead experience preferred.
• Six months of Anne Arundel County Public Schools Lead Custodian experience preferred.
• Six months of Anne Arundel County Public Schools Lead and/or Chief Custodian acting assignments preferred.

Nice-to-haves

• Successful completion of Leadership Training or Certificate Course issued by AACPS or equivalent outside course required.
• Ability to operate custodial and grounds care equipment.
