About the position

The Custodian position at Tacoma Public Schools involves performing custodial maintenance duties to ensure clean and sanitary conditions in school buildings. The role includes a variety of tasks such as cleaning floors, restocking supplies, and maintaining the overall cleanliness of the facilities. Responsibilities

• Sweeps, mops, strips, and polishes floors; vacuums and spot cleans carpets; empties wastebaskets into dumpsters; cleans and empties trash cans.
• Cleans and sanitizes restrooms and kitchen areas, including sinks, toilets, stalls, and dispensers; restocks supplies as needed.
• Replaces light bulbs and makes minor repairs to the building.
• Washes windows and mirrors; sweeps sidewalks, stairs, and areas outside of the building.
• Moves and arranges equipment and furniture for various school activities; sets up tables and chairs; cleans premises.
• Reports building and equipment conditions and failures requiring repair or preventive maintenance.
• Ensures proper care in the use and maintenance of equipment and supplies; maintains custodial supply rooms and equipment in a clean and orderly manner.
• Promotes continuous improvement of workplace safety and environmental practices.
• May oversee and/or assist with snow removal activities; assists in maintaining building exterior and grounds during inclement weather.

Requirements

• High school graduation or equivalent.
• One year of experience in custodial work preferred, or any combination of experience and training that provides the knowledge, skills, and ability required to perform the work.
• Valid Washington State Driver's License.

Nice-to-haves

• Experience in heavy lifting.
• Knowledge of custodial operations and related equipment.
• Skill in minor mechanical and equipment repair.
