About the position

The Custodian position at Winchester Public Schools is a full-time role dedicated to maintaining cleanliness and minor maintenance across all areas of the school building and grounds. This includes a variety of tasks such as scrubbing, mopping, vacuuming, dusting, sweeping, buffing, snow removal, grass mowing, and hedge trimming. The custodian will be responsible for ensuring that the environment is safe, clean, and conducive to learning for students and staff alike. The role requires physical activity, including moving furniture, supplies, and equipment as needed. The custodian will report directly to the school's principal or their designee and will be expected to perform other duties as assigned to support the overall mission of the school.

Responsibilities

• Perform general cleaning and minor maintenance in all areas of the building and grounds.
• Scrub, mop, vacuum, dust, sweep, and buff floors as required.
• Conduct snow removal and maintain outdoor areas including grass mowing and hedge trimming.
• Move furniture, supplies, and equipment as necessary.
• Follow instructions from the school's principal or designee regarding additional duties.

Requirements

• Experience in custodial or related field.
• Knowledge of cleaning methods, materials, equipment, and chemicals.
• Demonstrated ability to effectively use machines/equipment for routine cleaning and maintenance.
• Ability to understand written and oral instructions.
• Ability to communicate effectively with others, verbally and in writing.
• Ability to lift/move up to 10 pounds, and occasionally lift/move up to 50 pounds.
• Possess a valid driver's license.
