About the position

The Custodian/Housekeeper at Kentucky State University is responsible for maintaining a clean, healthy, and safe environment for students, staff, faculty, and visitors. This part-time position involves routine cleaning and maintenance of university buildings, utilizing environmentally friendly products, and ensuring workplace safety and environmental practices are upheld.

Responsibilities

• Perform routine maintenance to custodial equipment and supplies.
• Empty trash receptacles and bag trash for proper disposal.
• Change light bulbs as directed.
• Lock doors after cleaning areas.
• Clean assigned areas by washing furnishings, windows, tiles, fixtures, equipment, and floors.
• Vacuum, dust, and polish specified areas and/or furnishings.
• Sanitize and disinfect bathrooms.
• Restock paper and soap supplies.
• Gather and transport refuse from assigned areas to appropriate disposal locations.
• Inspect physical condition of assigned areas and submit requests for repairs or replacements.
• Request cleaning materials and supplies and mix cleaning solutions according to specifications.
• Operate standard cleaning equipment such as vacuum cleaners, buffers, and mops.
• Event staffing as needed.
• Report safety hazards as appropriate.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED preferred, or equivalent experience in housekeeping.
• General knowledge of common cleaning practices and standards.
• Ability to prioritize, manage time, and coordinate multiple assignments.
• Ability to read and interpret safety rules, product label instructions, and procedure manuals.
• Good customer service skills.
• Ability to work independently or as part of a team.

Nice-to-haves

• Experience in housekeeping or custodial work.
