About the position

The Leadworker Custodian position at Polk County Public Schools is responsible for overseeing and performing cleaning tasks in and around school facilities during the night shift. This role involves heavy manual work, supervising other custodians, and ensuring that the environment remains clean, safe, and sanitary for students and staff. The position requires adherence to a cleaning schedule and the ability to use various cleaning tools and chemicals effectively.

Responsibilities

• Follows assigned cleaning schedule and supervises the work of night custodians.
• Empties trash containers and cleans chalk trays and chalkboards.
• Dusts ledges, furniture, lights, and replaces spent light bulbs.
• Refills restroom dispensers and maintains cleanliness of toilet, shower, and dining room facilities.
• Strips, cleans, burnishes, and applies finish to hard surface floors.
• Vacuums and shampoos carpets, cleans and disinfects drinking fountains.
• Washes walls, windows, and glass surfaces.
• Assists lunchroom and warehouse personnel in stacking heavy crates and boxes.
• Maintains cleanliness of dining rooms and assists with setups for meetings and events.
• Performs maintenance work using lawnmowers and other tools related to lawn and shrub maintenance.

Requirements

• Completion of eighth grade or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
• Some knowledge of methods and equipment used in custodial tasks.
• Ability to understand and follow instructions.
• Ability to perform work requiring strength and stand for continuous hours.

Nice-to-haves

• Bilingual/biliterate preferred.
