About the position

The Custodian Level I position at Bobby Ray Elementary is responsible for maintaining a clean, safe, and attractive environment for students, staff, and visitors. This role involves performing various custodial tasks, ensuring that facilities are prepared for daily operations and special events, and adhering to safety and sanitation standards.

Responsibilities

  • Keeps buildings and grounds neat and clean at all times.
  • Checks daily to ensure custodial and mechanical rooms are locked.
  • Sweeps classrooms daily and dusts furniture.
  • Cleans corridors after school and during the day as needed.
  • Scrubs, hoses down, and disinfects toilets, urinals, and floors daily.
  • Cleans all sanitary fixtures and drinking fountains daily.
  • Washes all windows at least twice a year, more frequently if necessary.
  • Keeps the grounds free from rubbish.
  • Cleans all dry erase boards at least once a week.
  • Reports major repairs to the lead custodian and any damage to school property to the principal.
  • Keeps an inventory of supplies and requisitions replacements in advance.
  • Moves furniture or equipment as required for various activities.
  • Complies with laws and procedures for the storage and disposal of waste.
  • Cross trains on all custodial equipment to become proficient in their use.
  • Attends meetings and training for job function improvement.
  • Cleans assigned facilities and grounds to maintain a sanitary environment.
  • Performs summer maintenance tasks such as stripping/waxing floors and painting.
  • Prepares site for daily operations, ensuring facilities are operational and hazard-free.
  • Replenishes classroom and restroom supplies for daily use.
  • Responds to immediate safety and operational concerns.
  • Secures facilities and grounds to minimize property damage and liability.
  • Supports District maintenance staff in completing custodial activities.

Requirements

  • Ability to operate equipment used in custodial work, including power hand tools and battery-type machines.
  • Knowledge of standard methods, materials, and tools used in custodial work.
  • Ability to read and understand English from manuals and instructions.
  • Ability to schedule activities and gather data effectively.
  • Ability to work with a diverse group of individuals and utilize job-related equipment.
  • Ability to adapt to changing work priorities and develop effective working relationships.
