About the position

The Custodian/Maintenance Tech position at Neighborhood House Association involves performing custodial and cleaning duties at Head Start sites and administrative offices. The role is essential for maintaining a clean and safe environment for staff and children, preparing facilities for meetings, and ensuring that all areas are well-kept and functional. The position requires general supervision and includes a variety of tasks related to cleaning, maintenance, and safety practices.

Responsibilities

• Sweep, mop, scrub, and polish floors; vacuum rugs and spot-clean carpets.
• Dust and polish furniture and woodwork.
• Empty, clean, and line waste receptacles; dispose of trash.
• Wash doors, windows, walls, ceilings, and furniture.
• Clean kitchen appliances and restock restroom supplies as necessary.
• Report the need for maintenance and repair.
• Strip, seal, and buff floors; secure buildings by closing windows and locking doors.
• Maintain equipment and materials in proper condition; keep records of work performed.
• Observe safe working practices and report any safety hazards.
• Set up conference rooms and assist other maintenance personnel as needed.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED equivalent.
• One year of custodial experience.
• Knowledge of proper cleaning methods and safe usage of cleaning materials.
• Ability to understand and follow written and oral instructions.
• Certification in Pediatric First Aid and CPR within 90 days of employment.
