The Custodian (Night) position at Southeast Polk Community School District is responsible for performing custodial work in the Middle School during evening hours. The role involves maintaining cleanliness and hygiene standards in various school facilities, ensuring a safe and welcoming environment for students and staff. The custodian will work independently and as part of a team to complete tasks efficiently and effectively, while also responding to the needs of the school community.

Cleans and preserves designated spaces, equipment, etc., in assigned buildings to meet health standards.
Cleans rugs, carpets, upholstered furniture, and/or draperies using vacuum cleaners and/or shampooers.
Sweeps, scrubs, waxes, and/or polishes floors using brooms, mops, and/or powered scrubbers.
Dusts and polishes furniture and equipment.
Washes windows, walls, ceilings, and woodwork, waxing and polishing as necessary.
Empties wastebaskets and transports trash and waste to disposal areas.
Moves and arranges furniture as required.
Removes debris from driveways, garages, bus loading areas, and entrances to buildings.
Sets and takes down lunch tables and chairs for special events.
Raises and lowers the flag at the beginning and end of the day when applicable.
Fills in for other shift custodial absence as required by Administration.
Examines building and reports the needs for repairs of failed equipment.
Requests repair work as discovered and reports needs immediately for maintenance.
Keeps equipment and work area clean and neat.
Restocks disposable items and provides inventory usage and data.
Requests supplies and equipment to complete required cleaning.
Assists visiting public utilizing the facilities with directions within the building and in obtaining and setting up equipment.

High School Diploma or equivalent.
Ability to perform basic mathematical skills such as addition, subtraction, division, and multiplication.
Ability to read, write, and interpret rules, reports, and procedure manuals.
Ability to communicate information and ideas effectively in speaking and writing.
Ability to prioritize, organize, and accomplish assigned work.
Ability to work independently and/or as a team to complete tasks and meet goals.
Ability to recognize problems, determine causes, and take appropriate action for resolution.
Basic knowledge required to identify building conditions and/or hazardous chemicals.
Knowledge of how to safely use, post notice, and dispose of chemicals.
Knowledge of basic techniques of floor maintenance, including carpet, tile, and terrazzo.

Experience in school custodian department or related experience.
First aid certificate.
Knowledge of fire and safety codes.

$20.59 per hour and then $23.13/hour after 6 months
In-service training and school meetings as directed
