About the position

The Custodian position at Nome School District involves providing a variety of cleaning services to maintain the facilities in a clean and orderly condition. This role supports the Nome Public Schools and is open only to local residents of Nome, AK. The position is non-rotational and includes both full-time and part-time opportunities with a pay range of $22-$26 per hour, depending on experience.

Responsibilities

• Clean, sweep, vacuum, mop, sanitize and/or restock various areas including hallways, offices, restrooms, and public areas.
• Open facilities for non-school usage during weekends and evening events.
• Perform floor maintenance tasks such as sweeping, mopping, scrubbing, and waxing using appropriate equipment.
• Dust and clean various surfaces in both low and high areas.
• Use appropriate cleaning equipment and solutions for all tasks.
• Remove and properly dispose of discarded materials and transport trash to disposal areas.
• Compact trash as needed and change light bulbs or perform light facility maintenance.
• Keep building entryways free of snow and debris.
• Operate a vehicle to work at various locations as required.
• Perform other duties pertinent to the department's success as assigned.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED equivalent.
• Some combination of education or experience demonstrating knowledge of cleaning equipment and processes.
• Must have a working cell phone number for job dispatching.
• Fluency in speaking, reading, and writing English.

Nice-to-haves

• Prior janitorial/custodian experience preferred.
