About the position

The Custodian - Seasonal position at the City of Arvada involves performing custodial work to ensure that City Hall buildings are safe, clean, and pleasant for both employees and visitors. This role is non-benefited and operates on a variable-hour schedule, typically Monday to Friday from 2:00 PM to 10:30 PM, with a maximum of 32 hours per week.

Responsibilities

• Locks and unlocks doors in buildings according to daily schedule.
• Cleans and maintains floors throughout buildings, including carpet shampooing and waxing floors.
• Maintains all aspects of cleaning of the building and preventive maintenance of office furniture.
• Maintains custodial equipment, stocks, and organizes custodial closets.
• Cleans and fuels city vehicles as needed.
• Responds to emergency requests and cleans and sanitizes the area as needed.
• Disposes of trash from trash cans located in city buildings.
• Maintains ceramic floors, carpets, strips and waxes floors, cleans offices, windows, and ensures a uniform appearance.
• Moves office furniture and sets up classrooms as required.
• Maintains and repairs custodial equipment and furniture.
• Demonstrates a respectful attitude towards customers and coworkers that promotes teamwork and effective customer service.
• Acts with the customer in mind, responds to requests promptly and provides effective services or solutions for customers.
• Exercises appropriate level of initiative and judgment to make decisions within the scope of assigned authority.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED equivalency required.
• 1 year of cleaning or related experience.
• Valid Colorado driver's license and acceptable driving record required.
• Must pass a criminal history check, fingerprints, and physical.

Nice-to-haves

• Basic computer skills.
• Knowledge of all custodian equipment such as vacuums, buffers, and chemical disbursement machines.

Benefits

• Earn 1 hour of sick leave for every 30 hours worked, up to a maximum of 48 hours.
