About the position
The Custodian position is responsible for performing a variety of cleaning and maintenance tasks to ensure a safe and sanitary environment within the building. This role requires effective interpersonal skills and the ability to perform essential job functions, including lifting and moving items as necessary. The custodian will report directly to the Head Custodian of the building and may be required to work overtime and on weekends to accommodate district events and facility schedules.
Responsibilities
- Perform major cleaning tasks such as vacuuming, wet-mopping, sweeping, dusting, and emptying trash.
- Clean restrooms, including floors and all fixtures, ensuring they are clean and disinfected.
- Wash windows and sills.
- Replace light bulbs and fill dispensers, setting up facilities for use.
- Make minor building repairs and report major repairs to the Head Custodian.
- Ensure all doors and windows are locked appropriately.
- Assist in major clean-up during summer, including washing desks and chairs, and stripping and waxing floors.
- Maintain grounds by pulling weeds, keeping areas free of rubbish, and shoveling snow in winter.
Requirements
- Preferred High School diploma or G.E.D.
- Ability to perform essential job functions.
- Effective interpersonal skills.
- Effective grooming skills.
- Ability to lift 55 pounds to shoulder height occasionally.
- Ability to push/pull a minimum of 20 pounds frequently.
