About the position

The Dracut Public Schools is seeking substitute custodians to cover day and/or night shift assignments. The Custodian is expected to work cooperatively and harmoniously with the Principal of the building in order that maximum efficiency will prevail. The Custodian is expected to accept the responsibility for courtesy, behavior, and language in all situations involving school children, visitors, teachers, and administrative staff. The Custodian is expected to be thoroughly familiar with the proper use of custodial supplies such as synthetic detergents, soaps, scouring powders, waxes, etc., and the proper techniques in using them. The Custodian is expected to have knowledge of the proper use, operations, and care of specialized electrical cleaning equipment. The Custodian is expected to be punctual in arriving at school. He/she is responsible for notifying the Principal whenever he/she has to leave the building. He/she is responsible for the physical security of the building when he/she leaves at the end of the day. Security measures must be checked in reference to doors, windows, lights, lavatory areas, boiler rooms and boilers, night temperature settings, etc.

Responsibilities

• Responsible for the general upkeep of clean, neat and orderly school building areas.
• Sweep floors, lobby, and corridor areas between the time the teacher departs from the classroom and the opening of school the following day.
• Sweep, wet mop, dry clean, scrub, wax, and buff floors as conditions warrant.
• Maintain cleanliness and functionality of washroom facilities.
• Follow accepted duty routines for the proper maintenance and upkeep of school building facilities.
• Devote attention to general handyman category of repairs.
• Operate the heating system and ventilating equipment efficiently.
• Supervise fuel deliveries and check them.
• Keep outside grounds neat, tidy, and attractive.
• Assist the Principal in safeguarding public school property.
• Keep neat and accurate records of supplies and material used.
• Ensure proper display and storage of the flag of the United States of America.
• Maintain cleanliness and order in custodial storage rooms.
• Be aware of fire prevention and accident prevention procedures.

Requirements

• Familiarity with custodial supplies and proper techniques.
• Knowledge of specialized electrical cleaning equipment.
• Punctuality and responsibility for notifying the Principal when leaving the building.
• Ability to maintain physical security of the building.

Nice-to-haves

• Experience in custodial work or related field.
• Knowledge of fire drill procedures and fire extinguisher operation.
