About the position
The Custodian has general responsibility for cleaning and maintaining all campus housing to provide efficient service, safe and comfortable accommodations and attractive surroundings for the occupants.
Responsibilities
- Scrubbing, stripping, waxing, mopping, cleaning, dusting, sweeping or vacuuming floors and stairs
- Cleaning and disinfecting showers, sinks, drains, grout and mirrors in restrooms and ensuring supplies are provided
- Cleaning and emptying trash containers, recycle containers and ash tray
- Removing trash from exterior of building
- Cleaning exterior walls and doors
- Cleaning doors, windows, light fixtures, blinds, partitions, furniture, water fountains, vents, blinds and baseboards in hallways and kitchens
- Replacing light bulbs, removing spider webs, setting up for office events and maintaining and cleaning custodial equipment
- Cleaning kitchens
- Cleaning laundry rooms and keeping laundry areas free of lint
- Collecting items for recycling
- Referring work order to Facilities Services when repairs cannot be complete in-house
- Inspecting and maintaining equipment used
- Moving furniture as requested by area Supervisor
- Correcting or reporting unsafe conditions to the area Supervisor
- Maintaining appearance of custodial storage rooms
- Wearing uniform when residence halls are occupied
- Performing other duties as assigned by the Supervisor in support of the goals and objective of Housing & Residence Life Division
- Following safety procedures
- Completing performance review process with supervisor to understand job performance expectations and how they fit into the department and university goals
- Communicating openly and recognizing contributions of co-workers and supervisor
- Pursuing professional development to keep pace with demands for services and information; including maintaining up to date information about the department and university.
Requirements
- High School graduate with 1 - 2 years experience in related field
- Ability to read and understand written instructions and product labels
- Ability to operate basic cleaning equipment
- Ability to complete work independently
