About the position

The City of Northglenn is seeking an energetic and outgoing individual to join our team as a Custodian at the new Northglenn City Hall. This part-time position offers a unique opportunity to contribute to the cleanliness and maintenance of a vital community facility. The role involves performing custodial and general maintenance duties, ensuring that the City Hall remains a welcoming and safe environment for both employees and visitors. The work schedule is set for 32 hours per week, primarily during daytime hours from Monday to Friday, allowing for a balanced work-life schedule. As a Custodian, you will be responsible for a variety of tasks that include sweeping, mopping, washing, scrubbing, stripping, and waxing floors, both by hand and using machines. You will also dust and polish furniture and woodwork, wash windows, screens, sills, and perform minor building maintenance repairs, including inside painting. Your role will require you to clean, sanitize, and restock restrooms, dust and vacuum rooms, and manage waste disposal. Additionally, you will be tasked with replacing light bulbs, performing minor repairs, and operating mechanical sweepers and buffers. Responsibilities

  • Sweep, mop, wash, scrub, strip, and wax floors by hand or machine.
  • Dust and polish furniture and woodwork.
  • Wash windows, screens, sills, woodwork, doors, walls, and ceilings.
  • Perform minor building maintenance repairs and inside painting.
  • Clean, sanitize, and restock restrooms.
  • Dust and vacuum rooms; lock and unlock doors and windows.
  • Collect trash and dispose of waste; replace light bulbs.
  • Perform minor building repairs requiring limited special skills as directed and report other needed repairs to supervisors.
  • Operate mechanical sweepers and buffers.
  • Install paper towels, soap, toilet paper, and chemical dispensers.
  • Mount and install bulletin boards, calendars, pictures, etc.
  • Move furniture, supplies, and equipment manually or by use of hand truck.
  • Shovel snow, spread snowmelt, maintain sidewalks, and assist in keeping outside premises in a safe and orderly condition.
  • Secure work area and/or facility in a safe and orderly fashion when work is completed.
  • Prepare surfaces for painting and perform painting assignments.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • One year of custodial or general maintenance experience.
  • Working knowledge of cleaning methods, chemicals, materials, and equipment.
  • Ability to operate and care for sweeping, vacuuming, and polishing machines and related equipment.
  • Ability to perform manual cleaning and related labor while standing for extended periods.
  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees and the public.
