This position, which offers a blend of onsite and hybrid work arrangements, is based in Grand Rapids, MI and necessitates a presence in the office for 2-3 days each week. GE Aerospace is at the forefront of the aerospace sector, pioneering in the creation of computing platforms tailored for embedded aviation applications. The Platform Computing and Networking Systems division is pivotal in shaping the architecture and requirements for these platforms, alongside the essential tools for operating and configuring real-time computing systems. This architect role is central to collaborating with customers to define these platforms, driving the development and implementation of cutting-edge computing platform technology and products. This entails a deep engagement with customers to grasp their technological and product requirements, architecting novel systems, and spearheading the creation of new computing, network, and security technologies and products. Additionally, this role involves close collaboration with product development teams for implementation, engaging in individual and team-based internal research and development, responding to customer proposals, providing technical leadership, and advising product teams. This position offers a prominent leadership opportunity, working alongside some of the most talented individuals in the industry.

Responsibilities

  • Lead in a technical development capacity.
  • Explore and implement processing architectures, focusing on interfaces, operating systems, multi-core determinism, and embedded processors for enhanced performance processing.
  • Develop and integrate network end systems and switches, utilizing Time Sensitive Networking (TSN), UDP, TCIP, ARINC 664, IEEE 802.3/802.1 Ethernet, among other protocols.
  • Employ model-based systems design and simulation for evaluating alternative architectures and to streamline validation and verification processes, aiming to reduce costs.
  • Collaborate with the civil and military aerospace sectors to produce certified architectures.
  • Forge and implement security measures including IEEE 802.1X, MACsec, IPsec, Authentication, Digital Signatures, key management, and trusted boot.
  • Craft and evolve certifiable configuration tools for platform configuration, integration with model-based development tools, and security protocols.
  • Engage with customers, both internal and external, to articulate architecture principles and concepts.
  • Communicate design and architecture concepts effectively to systems, hardware, and software architects/engineers for simulation, implementation, and verification/validation.
  • Contribute to the definition of product and technical roadmaps.
  • Conduct engineering trade studies and develop technical proposals to demonstrate how GE's products deliver exceptional value to customers.
  • Initiate, lead, and participate in Internal Research and Development (IRAD) programs.
  • Promote the development of intellectual property.
  • Nurture technical relationships within the industry by working closely with customers and leading our participation in technical committees and symposiums.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, computer science, aeronautics, or a related technical or scientific field from an accredited university or college.
  • At least 10 years' experience in Embedded Computing, Networking, Software, or Systems Engineering, or a similar capacity.
  • Openness and ability to travel as needed.
  • Must be able to work in Grand Rapids, MI.
  • Must have legal authorization to work in the U.S. GE will not sponsor employment visas for this role now or in the future.
  • This position requires access to U.S. Government-restricted data and is open only to U.S. Citizens.

  • Experience in avionics and aircraft systems.
  • Leadership and mentoring experience.
  • Knowledge of engineering processes including requirements definition, allocation, validation, verification, integration, embedded software, electronic systems, FAA/EASA/NAA certification, and system safety.
  • Ability to communicate directly with senior leadership.
  • Proficiency in software tools such as Cameo, RTC, Git, Windchill.
  • Experience in vehicle and avionics systems level design, integration, and verification.
  • Ability to multi-task and prioritize in a dynamic environment.
