About the position

As a Customer Engineer for Infrastructure Modernization at Google Cloud, you will play a pivotal role in helping organizations leverage the power of cloud computing to enhance their productivity and collaboration. Your primary responsibility will be to work closely with the sales team to introduce Google Cloud products to prospective and existing customers, as well as partners. You will be tasked with understanding the unique business challenges faced by these organizations and developing creative cloud solutions and architectures that address their specific needs. This involves not only showcasing the capabilities of Google Cloud but also problem-solving any technical roadblocks that may arise during the sales process. In this role, you will be the technical liaison between customers and Google Cloud's product marketing and engineering teams. You will stay informed about industry trends and customer feedback to help drive enhancements to Google Cloud products. Your ability to listen to customer needs and deliver tailored solutions will be crucial in facilitating their digital transformation journeys. You will also assist fellow sales Googlers by addressing key technical issues, ensuring that customers receive the best possible support and guidance throughout their engagement with Google Cloud. The position requires a deep understanding of traditional data center architectures, cloud computing environments, and various technical competencies. You will inspire both customers and peers to explore innovative solutions that leverage Google Cloud's cutting-edge technology. Your role will also involve managing the technical relationship with customers, conducting product briefings, and coordinating proof-of-concept work to demonstrate the effectiveness of Google Cloud integrations in real-world scenarios. Additionally, you will recommend migration strategies and enterprise architectures, ensuring that customers can successfully transition to cloud-based solutions using best practices.

Responsibilities

  • Inspire customers and peers to solve problems with solutions leveraging a set of technical competencies.
  • Work with the team to identify and qualify business opportunities, identify customer technical objections, and develop a strategy to resolve technical blockers.
  • Manage the technical relationship with Google's customers including managing product, solution briefings, proof-of-concept work, and the coordination of additional technical resources.
  • Work with customers to demonstrate and prototype Google Cloud product integrations in customer or partner environments.
  • Recommend migration strategies, enterprise architectures, migration tools, and cloud infrastructure required to complete solutions using best practices on Google Cloud.
  • Travel to customer sites, conferences, and other related events as needed.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 10 years of experience in a technical sales engineer role in a cloud computing environment or customer-facing role.
  • Experience in traditional data center architectures and components (e.g., servers, storage, backup, networking, and virtualization technology).

Nice-to-haves

  • Master's degree in Computer Science, or a related technical field.
  • Experience with one or more of the following: public cloud platforms, infrastructure, storage, platforms.
  • Experience in areas of networking (i.e., Linux, software-defined networking, virtualization, open protocols, application acceleration and load balancing, DNS, virtual private networks and their application to PaaS and IaaS technologies).
  • Experience in security matters (e.g., authentication protocols, identity and access management systems, encryption, securing cloud architectures, network, end-points security).
  • Experience with deployment methodologies and technologies (e.g., Continuous Integration (CI), Continuous Deployment (CD), Chef, Puppet, Ansible).
  • Experience with operating systems, Linux system administration, or Enterprise applications.
