About the position

The Product Owner I is a pivotal role within the organization, responsible for ensuring that a development team, referred to as a pod, is delivering customer-focused product increments that create value for the organization. This role requires a strong alignment with other Product Owners and senior management to adhere to a defined product vision. The Product Owner I is tasked with creating and maintaining a prioritized product backlog, managing delivery blockers, and continuously assessing customer feedback to maximize value. The position emphasizes the importance of embodying Agile principles such as transparency, collaboration, and engagement, contributing to a positive work environment. In this role, the Product Owner I acts as a key subject matter expert, leveraging substantial knowledge and expertise in a complex field while integrating knowledge of the enterprise's overarching strategy to develop solutions across multiple functions. The individual is accountable for specialized product development support, interpreting internal and external business challenges, and recommending best practices to improve products, processes, or services. The role also involves leading cross-functional understanding and solving complex problems, while using sophisticated analytical thought to identify solutions that impact the achievement of business objectives. The Product Owner I is expected to communicate complex concepts effectively, converting information into compelling business contexts and influencing alignment across senior stakeholders. The position requires autonomy in leading initiatives and guiding others within the area of expertise, ensuring that the development team is aligned with the product vision and delivery roadmap. This includes managing user story design, development oversight, and defect management, while actively engaging with business process partners to prepare customers for application changes.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure the development team is creating value through customer-focused product increments.
  • Align with other Product Owners and senior management to follow a product vision.
  • Create and maintain a prioritized product backlog and manage delivery blockers.
  • Continuously assess customer feedback to maximize product value.
  • Participate in scrum or Kanban events to improve product value and delivery efficiency.
  • Manage delivery initiatives and oversee multiple development team backlogs as needed.
  • Provide oversight on user story design, development, and completion.
  • Proactively raise issues that impede efficient delivery of customer-focused increments.
  • Responsible for defect management and prioritization.
  • Communicate product changes and backlog priorities to business and technology stakeholders.

Requirements

  • Undergraduate degree and/or product certificate.
  • 7+ years of relevant experience in product ownership or Agile delivery.
  • 3-5 years of experience as a Product Owner or in Agile related delivery roles.
  • Certified Scrum Product Owner (CSPO) certification is an asset.
  • Experience with Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe) or operating in scaled agile delivery is preferred.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience developing and managing complex customer outreach programs tied to regulatory requirements.
  • Digital campaign experience with letters, email, SMS text, and knowledge of applicable TD processes.
