The Customer Service Clerk I position at the City of Augusta, GA, is responsible for processing utility payments and assisting customers with various utility-related inquiries and services. Responsibilities

  • Processes payments for utilities, other fees, and services.
  • Receives payments from customers by check, cash, and credit card.
  • Documents payments received, balances cash drawers daily, and prepares bank deposits.
  • Provides information and assistance regarding utility billing, payments, or other issues.
  • Responds to routine questions, complaints, or requests for services.
  • Initiates problem resolution, conducts research, recommends solutions, and follows up to ensure customer satisfaction.
  • Sets up new accounts and assists customers in identifying needed services.
  • Inputs data into the computer system database while creating and updating work orders.
  • Serves as a primary contact for service-related questions, reviews the status of work orders, and resolves complaints regarding services.
  • Answers questions and responds to requests regarding billing/payments and troubleshoots meter reading problems and billing errors.
  • Provides customer service to walk-ins, processes payments, and receives payments.
  • Uses CIS billing software to research customer complaints.
  • Handles large sums of money, prepares reports, and maintains financial records and accounts.
  • Researches amounts due and past due balances.
  • Corrects address changes on returned mail and re-mails to new addresses.
  • Scans account documents.
  • Operates standard office equipment, computer, and two-way radio.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or GED.
  • One (1) year experience providing customer service, preferably to the public, both in-person and by telephone.

Nice-to-haves

  • Cashiering experience in banking or credit union.
