About the position

The Texas Water Company is actively seeking a talented and driven individual for the position of Customer Service Field Technician. This full-time role is based in New Braunfels, TX, and is integral to our commitment to providing excellent customer service. The Customer Service Field Technician will perform routine field work related to customer connections and will assist both the Customer Service and Billing Departments in delivering high-quality service to our customers. In this role, the technician will be responsible for obtaining and recording accurate meter readings, both manually and electronically, as required. The technician will also be tasked with turning on, turning off, locking, or unlocking meters as necessary. Meeting with customers in person to address their concerns, particularly regarding high usage, is a key aspect of this position. The technician will utilize handheld computer devices to obtain meter data logs and will explain these logs to customers to ensure they understand their water usage data. Additional responsibilities include performing meter tests using calibrated equipment, investigating customer pressure concerns, and completing Alternate Short Tap services for new customers. The technician will also be involved in installing new meters and associated items, completing tap inquiries, and conducting line locates to prevent damage to existing infrastructure during construction work. The role requires the technician to lock out services for non-payment, investigate malfunctioning meters and AMR equipment, and maintain motor vehicles and equipment necessary for completing assigned tasks. Promoting and practicing a safe work environment is essential, and the technician will be expected to perform all other duties as assigned.

Responsibilities

  • Obtain and record accurate meter readings manually or electronically as required.
  • Turn on, turn off, lock or unlock meters as required.
  • Meet with customers in person as required.
  • Investigate customer high usage concerns.
  • Obtain meter data logs using handheld computer devices.
  • Explain data logs to customers to ensure they understand the water use data.
  • Perform meter tests using calibrated meter test equipment when required.
  • Investigate customer pressure concerns.
  • Complete Alternate Short Tap services for new customers.
  • Install new meter and associated items as required.
  • Complete tap inquiries, investigating existing water mains and services to determine the best location for a new service connection.
  • Complete line locates, investigating, identifying and marking water mains and service lines to ensure no damage occurs to existing infrastructure during third party routine and non-routine construction work.
  • Lock out service for non-payment as required.
  • Investigate malfunctioning meters and AMR equipment.
  • Remove and install meters as required.
  • Remove and install meter registers and MIU devices as required.
  • Investigate vacant locations with usage.
  • Investigate active accounts with zero usage reported.
  • Create, edit and return work orders electronically.
  • Verify customer location and meter numbers, as required.
  • Promote and practice a safe work environment for internal and external clients utilizing safety policies and procedures.
  • Maintain motor vehicles, equipment and supplies necessary to complete assigned tasks.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • A valid Texas Driver's License with satisfactory Motor Vehicle Record.
  • Basic computer skills to email, create and edit field work orders, and download/upload data from meters or transmitters.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills to interact with customers and staff.
  • Ability to perform tasks safely and efficiently and adjust well to new methods and situations.
  • Ability to deal courteously and professionally with others, requiring constant interaction with the public and staff.
  • Neat appearance and ability to make reports in a concise and legible manner.
  • Ability to accurately carry out both written and oral instructions.
  • Ability to use independent judgment and initiative.
