About the position

The Management Trainee program at Hannaford Supermarkets is designed to equip future managers with the essential skills and knowledge necessary to excel in management roles within the store. This program emphasizes the importance of effective supervision of store associates, particularly in the absence of the Store Manager. Trainees will assist in managing all store operations, ensuring that financial and sales goals are met while fostering strong relationships with both associates and customers. As part of the Management Trainee program, individuals will be expected to learn and understand various aspects of store operations, including merchandising techniques and customer service excellence. The role requires effective communication skills and the ability to lead and supervise a team. Trainees will also be responsible for learning multiple tasks and technical requirements, including the successful completion of forklift and power jack training. Problem-solving skills are essential, as is the ability to meet the minimum age requirements for the position. Physical demands of the role include lifting up to 20 lbs regularly and up to 60 lbs occasionally, as well as pushing and pulling weights of up to 40 lbs. The position requires standing or walking for 100% of the time, frequent reaching, grasping, and lifting of stock items, and the ability to tolerate extreme temperatures. Trainees will also need to handle various substances associated with cleaning and food products, and utilize computers and communication systems to perform job functions effectively.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise all duties and responsibilities of store associates in the absence of the Store Manager.
  • Assist in the management of all store operations to meet financial and sales goals.
  • Build associate and customer relations to promote a strong culture in support of Hannaford Strategy.
  • Support management of all aspects of Center Store operations as delegated by the Center Store Manager.
  • Lead all Center store associates effectively.
  • Model outstanding, friendly customer service and offer solutions that meet or exceed customer expectations.
  • Assist in growing sales through effective merchandising strategies.
  • Maintain effective work schedules to meet production and customer service standards.
  • Conduct associate performance appraisals as directed.
  • Maintain knowledge of and adhere to all standard practices in the Center Store Standard Practices Manual.
  • Ensure department conditions involving appearance, quality, variety, safety, and food safety are maintained at the highest level.
  • Utilize company tools such as financial reports, scheduling, productivity, ordering, and business information systems.
  • Receive, store, process, and merchandise all products according to established guidelines.
  • Maintain accurate records of production, shrink, sales, and inventory.
  • Cut, mark, and stock products as required.
  • Communicate department and company policies to associates.
  • Perform various department functions as needed to meet production and customer service guidelines.
  • Assist in special projects as needed.

Requirements

  • High school graduate or equivalent preferred.
  • Understanding of store operations and merchandising techniques.
  • Effective communication, customer service, and selling skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and supervise a team.
  • Effective interpersonal and organizational skills.
  • Willingness to learn multiple tasks and technical requirements, including forklift and power jack training.
  • Strong problem-solving skills.
  • Must meet minimum age requirements.
