About the position

The Area Leader at Meijer is responsible for ensuring team member engagement and operational excellence within their span of care. This role involves driving recognition, providing feedback and coaching, managing performance, and overseeing training and development. The Area Leader is accountable for area operations, financial performance, and fostering a positive workplace culture while implementing process improvements.

Responsibilities

• Engage with team members to ensure appropriate onboarding, training, and development.
• Identify talent and engage in career discussions to support staffing and leadership roles.
• Ensure Meijer standards are upheld through candid discussions with team members.
• Oversee execution of corporate plans to maximize sales and productivity, owning budget line items in the P&L.
• Drive safety and compliance throughout the store and manage overall condition.
• Guide Team Leaders and Leads in assigning daily work assignments and training needs.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience.
• Minimum 4+ years of retail/grocery or customer service experience.
• Progressive leadership experience preferred.
• Strong communication skills to provide clear direction.
• Ability to analyze financial and statistical information for informed decision-making.
• Demonstrated commitment to safety in the workplace.
• Proactive and creative thinking applied to business challenges.
• Understanding of seasonal and diverse merchandising to meet customer needs.
• Strong business acumen and innovative attitude.
