About the position

The Customer Service Representative for Patient Accounts at Stony Brook Clinical Practice Management is responsible for providing exceptional customer service to patients, handling inquiries, scheduling appointments, and conducting insurance verifications. This role requires strong problem-solving skills, the ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment, and a commitment to maintaining high ethical standards. The position is full-time, Monday to Friday, with potential remote work eligibility for New York State residents.

Responsibilities

  • Accurately and efficiently answer and schedule patient appointments.
  • Review various EMRs to assist in resolving patient inquiries.
  • Conduct insurance verification.
  • Handle a high volume of patient telephone calls.
  • Provide customer service to patients with courteous and professional behavior.
  • Document and take appropriate action for all telephone calls in the billing system.
  • Resolve patient inquiries or escalate for solution.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned by management.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma/GED
  • Three (3) years of customer service/call center experience, or two years of medical billing related experience, or graduation from a medical billing program.
  • Excellent expressive and written communication skills.
  • Highly organized and proficient in Microsoft Office Word and Excel.
  • Heavy telephone experience.

Nice-to-haves

  • Computer literate with knowledge of medical insurance policies, reimbursement, and medical terminology.
  • Experience with insurance websites.
