About the position

The Customer Service Representative at Alaska Marine Trucking, LLC is responsible for providing exceptional customer service by processing and delivering information related to freight distribution services in Alaska. This role involves handling customer inquiries, processing bills of lading, and ensuring accurate communication regarding rates and routing. The position requires a commitment to safety and excellent customer service, with opportunities for professional growth within the company.

Responsibilities

  • Answer customer information requests in person, by phone, and email regarding rates, routing, and packing procedures.
  • Perform tasks outside and during odd hours, including barge checking and inspecting vehicles and cargo for shipment.
  • Process Bills of Lading, ensuring complete information and entering data into the computer system.
  • Enter documents into the scanning system and respond to customer inquiries accurately and timely.
  • Quote accurate rates and document cargo bookings for shipments.
  • Perform audits to ensure accuracy of customer billing.
  • Handle customer concerns and troubleshoot issues as needed.

Requirements

  • High School Education or G.E.D. or equivalent.
  • Minimum of 2 years related experience in customer service or freight distribution.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret documents such as tariffs and procedural manuals.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts and percentages.
  • Must be able to apply for and be issued a TWIC (Transportation Workers Identification Card).
  • PC skills required: Windows, Excel, Outlook, and keyboarding proficiency.

Nice-to-haves

  • Knowledge of current customers, requirements, and processes in freight distribution.
  • Ability to work overtime as required.
  • Experience in a fast-paced, high-stress environment.
