The Customer Service Specialist PRN at AdventHealth Shawnee Mission plays a crucial role in the patient care team, ensuring that clerical and supportive functions are executed efficiently to facilitate smooth operations within the healthcare environment. The specialist will be responsible for a variety of tasks that contribute to the overall patient experience, including managing incoming phone calls, greeting patients, checking them in, and handling financial transactions related to their care. This role requires a proactive approach to patient interactions and a dedication to maintaining high standards of service and accuracy in all clerical duties. As a float position, the Customer Service Specialist will work at various clinics within Johnson, Miami, and Douglas counties, adapting to the needs of each location. The schedule is PRN, with shifts typically occurring Monday through Friday from 7:30 am to 4:00 pm, although hours may vary based on clinic needs. The specialist will also be involved in scheduling appointments, ensuring that patients are checked in and out efficiently, and performing daily reconciliations of payments and adjustments. This position is integral to the patient care process, requiring a blend of customer service skills and knowledge of healthcare operations.

Responsibilities

  • Schedule patient appointments in software as trained following scheduling procedures and standards.
  • Check in/out patients, accurately validating insurance and collecting pertinent copays, and deductibles and having patients complete paperwork.
  • Perform a daily reconciliation of payments and adjustments posted against sign-in sheet, encounter forms, and Athena correcting any discrepancies prior to daily close.
  • Prepare bank deposits on a daily basis.
  • Maintain current knowledge of ICD-9 and CPT-4 coding applications.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Up to 1 Year of Experience
  • Healthcare experience-PREFERRED
