About the position

The Customer Service Specialist position at the City of Cypress involves providing exceptional customer service at the front counter and over the phone, assisting the public with inquiries related to the Recreation and Community Services Department. This part-time role requires effective communication and clerical skills to support various administrative tasks and ensure smooth operations within the department.

Responsibilities

  • Provide front desk customer service in the Recreation and Community Services Department, responding to email, in-person and telephone requests for information and services.
  • Act as a front desk receptionist, taking and responding to phone calls, screening inquiries, taking messages, and answering questions.
  • Accept and process payments for class registration and facility rentals using specialized recreation software (CivicRec).
  • Open, sort and distribute mail.
  • Provide back-up staff support for preparing recreation program and facility deposits and petty cash balances.
  • Type general correspondence, reports and forms.
  • Perform general data entry to maintain accurate records and files.
  • Copy, collate, staple and bind a variety of materials, prepare bulk mailing.
  • Perform other related duties as required.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • 2 years of experience involving extensive public contact.
  • Previous employment with a public agency is highly desirable.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with CivicRec software is a plus.

Benefits

  • Part-time work schedule with approximately 20 hours per week.
  • Competitive hourly wage of $17 - $21.
