About the position

The City of Jacksonville is seeking a Customer Service Specialist to join the Water Billing Division. This role is essential in providing customer service and managing utility accounts, ensuring citizens receive satisfactory water services. The position involves clerical work, customer interaction, and maintaining financial records, all performed under regular supervision.

Responsibilities

  • Assisting customers with service requests and providing information.
  • Collecting and accounting for fees related to utility services.
  • Preparing and maintaining customer records and files.
  • Receiving telephone calls from utility customers regarding service inquiries.
  • Taking applications for new services and collecting appropriate fees.
  • Accepting cash and check payments for utility bills and other fees.
  • Searching for information to answer customer inquiries.
  • Maintaining financial and statistical records and compiling reports.
  • Typing service orders, requisitions, and correspondence.
  • Balancing daily cash and check receipts against records.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent.
  • 6 months to 2 years of experience in general office work.
  • General knowledge of utility, meter reading, and bookkeeping terminology and procedures.
  • Ability to understand and follow oral and written directions.
  • Ability to perform mathematical computations with speed and accuracy.
  • Skill in using various computer and office machines.
