About the position

The Customer Service Specialist will assist the Tax Assessor/Collector and Chief Deputy in various departmental functions, including the collection of property taxes, motor vehicle registration, and other fees. This role focuses on providing excellent customer service, processing transactions, and maintaining accurate records in accordance with departmental procedures and regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Provide customer service to counter customers by receiving payments and issuing receipts for various fees.
  • Answer incoming telephone calls and provide customer assistance or direct them to appropriate personnel.
  • Review and process motor vehicle registration renewals and maintain files for internet transactions.
  • Process daily incoming mail, including payments for motor vehicle registration and property taxes.
  • Maintain files of all motor vehicle transactions and handicap applications for disabled placards.
  • Process returned mail and update addresses as necessary, forwarding corrected property tax statements.
  • Respond to incoming mail and prepare correspondence related to office functions using word processing software.
  • Review processed motor vehicle title transactions for compliance and submit them to TX DMV.
  • Assist delinquent tax law firm in collecting delinquent property taxes and verify associated fees.
  • Prepare qualified property tax accounts for payment plans and maintain related documentation.
  • Interact with the public and various agencies regarding property tax collection and motor vehicle issues.
  • Maintain knowledge of statutes and regulations related to county tax office activities.
  • Assist with research and documentation requests for motor vehicle and property tax records.
  • Maintain cash drawer, prepare checks for deposit, and balance daily funds and receipts.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High School graduation or equivalent.
  • Previous experience in a customer service-oriented field involving cash transactions.
  • Knowledge of general office practices and procedures, basic accounting, and bookkeeping procedures.
  • Ability to operate standard office equipment and software with accuracy.
  • Proficiency in oral and written communication, with strong organizational skills.
  • Ability to multi-task, work under pressure, and meet deadlines.
