About the position

The Customer Service Technician position at Pinellas County Tax Collector involves providing advanced customer service and technical support in a variety of specialized office tasks. The role requires heavy public contact and the ability to handle complex legal documents and records in compliance with various regulations. Technicians will perform cashiering duties, conduct investigations, and assist the public with inquiries related to motor vehicle and driver license services, among other responsibilities.

Responsibilities

  • Provide complex technical and supportive services to the public in person, by phone, mail, or online.
  • Conduct investigations using various computer databases and collaborate with third-party agents for administrative support.
  • Screen and verify legal documents for citizen and non-citizen applicants before processing.
  • Access and analyze information from Florida's FRVIS/FDLIS databases for driver license eligibility.
  • Perform technical work related to motor vehicle and vessel titles, registrations, and license plates.
  • Research and analyze legal documents to determine eligibility for reinstatement of licenses.
  • Issue licenses and administer vision and medical examinations as needed.
  • Handle complicated cash transactions and maintain accurate financial records.
  • Participate in the Tax Collector's Intranet community and utilize various agency websites for information.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • 1 year of experience in a Florida Tax Collector's Office or DHSMV agency, or in an automated office environment, retail sales, or related customer service/cash handling field.
  • 1 year of college coursework in finance, accounting, business, general studies, or computer courses.
  • Possession of a valid State of Florida Driver's License upon hire.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age and compliant with Florida Statutes 322 for administering road tests.
  • Ability to work a variety of schedules, including emergency situations.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with SharePoint, Outlook, Word, and Excel.
  • Familiarity with Florida statutes and regulations related to tax collection and motor vehicle services.
