About the position

The Cath Lab Technologist II at AdventHealth Shawnee Mission plays a crucial role in performing cardiology and vascular procedures under the guidance of a cardiologist or vascular surgeon. This position requires a high level of technical skill and independent judgment, as the technologist will be responsible for applying ionizing radiation for radiologic diagnosis and performing a variety of cardiovascular technical procedures. The Cath Lab Technologist II is expected to be proficient in advanced vascular cases, including peripheral and EVAR procedures, and to have the necessary training and certification to assist in TAVR cases, PFO/ASD closures, mitral clips, and other structural heart procedures. This role also involves training and educating other team members to enhance their skills and adapt to new technologies. In addition to technical responsibilities, the Cath Lab Technologist II must adhere to safety and regulatory standards, ensuring that all procedures are performed in compliance with hospital policies. The technologist is responsible for maintaining accurate medical records, participating in quality improvement activities, and facilitating timely patient throughput. The position requires effective communication with physicians and other healthcare team members, as well as the ability to function in clinical emergencies. The Cath Lab Technologist II must also demonstrate leadership skills, taking initiative to stay informed about new equipment and technologies, and fostering a culture of teamwork and excellence within the department. The work schedule for this position is full-time, with shifts from Monday to Friday, 7:30 am to 4:00 pm, and includes an on-call rotation. The technologist must be able to respond to the hospital within 30 minutes when on call. This role is integral to providing high-quality patient care and ensuring the safety and effectiveness of cardiovascular procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Perform cardiology and vascular procedures under the direction of a cardiologist or vascular surgeon.
  • Apply ionizing radiation for radiologic diagnosis during cardiovascular technical procedures.
  • Assist in TAVR cases, PFO/ASD closures, mitral clips, and other structural heart procedures.
  • Train and educate team members to enhance their skills and adapt to new technologies.
  • Follow CDC isolation guidelines and demonstrate appropriate use of PPE.
  • Prepare patients using aseptic technique as dictated by procedure ordered.
  • Verify orders and facilitate implementation, communicating with physicians as needed.
  • Produce accurate medical records for each patient based on the intervention procedure and patient clinical conditions.
  • Participate in quality and performance improvement activities to improve patient outcomes.
  • Perform waived and/or non-waived Point of Care Testing as required.
  • Function effectively in all three procedural roles (monitor, scrub, circulate) during therapeutic cardiovascular procedures.
  • Maintain clinical expertise in diagnostic and interventional cardiovascular procedures.
  • Demonstrate leadership skills and knowledge base to educate and train other team members.
  • Set up, operate, and maintain equipment and supplies for each procedure.
  • Administer contrast media competently and maintain sterile fields during procedures.
  • Monitor ECG during procedures and report changes to the physician.
  • Participate in department Performance Improvement and adhere to radiation safety standards.

Requirements

  • Associate's Degree or Graduate of a Technical School.
  • 2 years Position Related Experience or 1 year Electrophysiology experience.
  • Basic arrhythmia interpretation skills.
  • American Heart Association Health Care BLS certification.
  • American Heart Association Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification within 6 months of hire.
  • Registered Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist (RCIS) OR Registered Radiologic Technologist (ARRT) and Kansas Licensed Radiologic Technologist (LRT) OR Kansas Registered Nurse License and Kansas Licensed Radiologic Technologist (LRT) OR Licensed RRT, RCIS or RCES by Cardiovascular Credentialing International.
