About the position

The CVN 75 Mechanical Work Control Technician will support the upcoming Refueling Complex Overhaul (RCOH) for CVN 75, providing technical support and expertise in work control processes. This role involves developing and managing work permits and Navy Work Authorization Forms (WAFs), ensuring safe and efficient execution of mechanical work on naval vessels. The position is based in Norfolk and Newport News, Virginia, and requires a strong understanding of ship mechanical systems and work control processes.

Responsibilities

  • Provides technical support to engineers on various technical tasks.
  • Gathers, maintains, formats, compiles, and manipulates technical data such as laboratory or material test results and engineering design changes.
  • Produces engineering documentation, reports, and drawings including flow charts, block diagrams, and schematics.
  • Performs detailed mathematical calculations and preliminary analyses of data.
  • Uses personal computer for analyses and development of documentation/reports.
  • Conducts tests and records data to assist with engineering evaluation or analysis.
  • Provides expertise in the development, planning, and scheduling for WAFs and work permits.
  • Develops, reviews, and revises execution of Navy Work Authorization Forms (WAFs) and safety tagout documents.
  • Approves and issues WAFs and Work Permits for assigned systems.
  • Resolves related problems and technical issues on-site to prevent delays and ensure safe work and testing operations.
  • Develops Work Permits/WAF from Inspection Reports to ensure safe isolation and timely issuance.

Requirements

  • AA or other 2-year technical degree in related discipline and 3 years of related experience, or HS + 5 years related (DoD/USN) experience.
  • Knowledge and experience with Work Control Processes (WAF/Work Permits).
  • Experience with Ships Mechanical Systems, AFFF, Shore Steam, Plumbing Vents and Drains, CHT, A/C and Chilled Water Systems.
  • Active DOD SECRET Security Clearance.
  • Prior US Navy experience with ESOMS/ETAG Tagout Systems.
  • Ability to read and interpret system drawings and diagrams.

Nice-to-haves

  • Prior US Navy Experience aboard NIMITZ Class Aircraft Carriers.
  • Prior US Navy Experience in Hull, Mechanical and Electrical Ratings.
  • Prior experience in a shipyard environment during overhaul.
