About the position

The CVN Propulsion Engineer position at ManTech involves providing technical support and risk assessment for the Nimitz and Ford Class Aircraft Carrier Ship Design Managers and Propulsion System Engineering Manager. The role requires engineering assessments, problem resolution, and coordination of technical approvals related to propulsion systems, ensuring effective communication and collaboration with various stakeholders.

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical support and assess risk for technical decisions for Nimitz (CVN 68) and Ford (CVN 78) Class Ship Design Managers and Propulsion System Engineering Manager.
  • Provide engineering assessment, research, and problem resolution utilizing Nimitz (CVN 68) and/or Ford (CVN 78) technical experience.
  • Respond to requests for technical assistance or adjudication received via letter, DFS, LAR, SPAR, and AWP Change Request.
  • Participate and coordinate technical approval letters for Ship Alteration and Technical Assessment Team reviews for Ship Change Documents.
  • Review Technical Feedback Reports for Planned Maintenance System changes requiring Designated Technical Representative review.
  • Coordinate with Engineering Agents, Technical Authorities, and other agencies to resolve Propulsion System technical matters.
  • Draft Class advisories for issuance through the Program Office and review In-Service Engineering Agent and Fleet advisories.
  • Provide technical guidance and/or resolution to actions in the Warfighter Improvement Program and the Propulsion Plant Matters.
  • Review ship, procurement, and systems specifications and submit proposals for changes.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering from an accredited college or university.
  • 5+ years of experience with aircraft carrier or submarine Propulsion Systems or prior experience as an E-7 and above.
  • Good technical writing and communication skills.
  • Occasional travel to Newport News, VA to conduct ship visits and participate in meetings.

Nice-to-haves

  • Bachelor of Science in Nuclear, Mechanical, Marine, Electrical, or Systems engineering.
  • Graduate Certificate in Nuclear Engineering.
  • Experience with Nimitz (CVN 68) and Ford (CVN78) class propulsion systems.
  • Worked with or at a shipyard, Naval Surface/Undersea Warfare Center, Supervisor of Shipbuilding Command, Regional Maintenance Center, and/or Type Commander supporting construction, operation, maintenance, modernization, and/or repair of shipboard propulsion systems.
  • Experience working with technical authority.
  • Experience working with program managers in an engineering role.
