About the position

The Investigator position within the Cyber Crimes Unit is designed for current undergraduate college students who are interested in gaining practical experience in digital forensics and cyber security. This part-time internship allows students to work on real criminal cases, assisting law enforcement and legal professionals in the investigation and prosecution of cyber crimes. Students will learn essential skills in digital analysis, evidence handling, and legal processes while being sworn in to have law enforcement powers during their tenure.

Responsibilities

  • Assist law enforcement officers by conducting digital forensics for active case investigations.
  • Assist federal and state prosecutors by conducting digital forensics for criminal case prosecutions.
  • Assist federal and state defense attorneys by conducting digital forensics for criminal case defense.
  • Conduct evidence intake, chain of custody, and recording.
  • Prepare search warrants.
  • Apply case facts to appropriate state and Federal laws.
  • Make court appearances and provide testimony, if needed.
  • Conduct research on technology and digital analysis topics.
  • Write warrants, reports, and other documentation extensively.

Requirements

  • Must be a current undergraduate college student.
  • Must be a United States Citizen (Per Indiana Code 36-8-3.5-12).
  • Basic knowledge of computers, mobile devices, and online social networking sites.
  • Basic research knowledge.
  • Excellent writing, critical thinking, and creative thinking skills.
  • Willingness to sign a confidentiality agreement and maintain a high degree of confidentiality.
  • Willingness to work with subject matter that may be disturbing.
  • Willingness to submit to an advanced background check.
