About the position

The Cyber Security Analyst III position at Dallas College plays a vital role in safeguarding the institution's proprietary and sensitive information. This role is responsible for monitoring multiple college computer information systems, networks, and cloud-based platforms for security issues, identifying and correcting flaws, and enhancing the College's overall security posture. The analyst will work closely with various stakeholders to define strategies and roadmaps for technology products, service standards, and governance routines that impact the College's security. The position requires a strong technical background in information technology, with the ability to test networks, computers, web-based applications, and other systems to detect exploitable vulnerabilities. The analyst must stay updated on the latest methods attackers use to infiltrate systems and analyze relevant cyber security data for suspicious network traffic and potential security breaches. In addition to technical skills, the role demands excellent interpersonal skills, the ability to communicate effectively, and a high degree of diplomacy and customer service. The analyst will be expected to act ethically and independently during investigations while maintaining strict confidentiality and compliance with Dallas College policies and applicable laws. The position may require working outside normal business hours and being on call to respond to security incidents as they occur. The analyst will also be responsible for conducting penetration testing, vulnerability assessments, and managing various security applications and tools to minimize and respond to cyber security compromises. The Cyber Security Analyst III will collaborate with leadership to design controls and service alternatives that enhance defenses against cyber-attacks. This includes researching emerging information security technologies, writing legally admissible forensic reports, and training employees in security awareness and preparedness. The role is essential in protecting digital files and information systems against unauthorized access, modification, or destruction, ensuring the safety and security of the computing environment at Dallas College.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor computer networks and cloud infrastructure for security breaches and cyber security incidents.
  • Conduct penetration testing and vulnerability assessments on networks, computers, and web-based applications.
  • Design, recommend, and implement new security equipment, tools, configurations, and procedures.
  • Consult with information privacy and security officers in response to emerging threats and security incidents.
  • Assist technical staff in implementing technology securely and document secure configuration standards.
  • Research emerging information security technologies to determine effective protection solutions.
  • Write concise and legally admissible forensic reports on findings from cyber security investigations.
  • Install and configure security measures and software, including firewalls and data encryption programs.
  • Coordinate security plans with outside vendors to implement security controls.
  • Train employees in security awareness, preparedness, and procedures.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in a related field plus 2-3 years of experience in cyber security or related experience.
  • Associate's degree in computer science or cybersecurity plus 4-5 years of relevant experience.
  • High School diploma or equivalent with a Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP), Certified Information Systems Auditor (CISA), or similar certification plus 5-6 years of experience.
  • In-depth knowledge of information security law and technical background in information technology.
  • Ability to analyze cyber security data for suspicious network traffic and potential security breaches.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to communicate effectively with diverse stakeholders.
