About the position

As an academic medical center with a rich history of providing life-saving treatment in Southern Nevada, University Medical Center (UMC) serves as the anchor hospital of the Las Vegas Medical District, offering Nevada's highest level of care to promote successful medical outcomes for patients. UMC is home to Nevada's ONLY Level I Trauma Center, Designated Pediatric Trauma Center, Burn Care Center, and Transplant Center. The institution is recognized as a Pathway Designated facility by the ANCC and is on its journey to achieving Magnet status. The Cyber Security Analyst plays a critical role in safeguarding the organization's digital assets from cyber threats. This position involves monitoring and analyzing the organization's IT infrastructure to detect and respond to potential security incidents. The analyst is responsible for identifying and mitigating security risks and responding to incidents promptly and effectively. Additionally, the role includes implementing security policies to ensure compliance with industry regulations, thereby maintaining the integrity and confidentiality of sensitive information. The ideal candidate will possess a strong foundation in cybersecurity principles and practices, with hands-on experience in security analysis. The position requires a proactive approach to security, with the ability to adapt to the evolving threat landscape and implement effective security measures to protect the organization’s assets. The Cyber Security Analyst will work closely with other IT professionals to enhance the overall security posture of UMC, ensuring that all systems are secure and compliant with relevant standards and regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor and analyze the organization's IT infrastructure for potential security incidents.
  • Identify and mitigate security risks promptly and effectively.
  • Respond to security incidents and implement appropriate measures to address them.
  • Implement security policies ensuring compliance with industry regulations.
  • Conduct vulnerability assessments and risk assessments to identify areas of improvement.
  • Maintain knowledge of current security trends and technologies to enhance security measures.
  • Collaborate with IT teams to ensure the security of systems and applications.
  • Create reports on security incidents and vulnerabilities for management review.

Requirements

  • Equivalent to an Associate's degree in Cybersecurity, Management Information Systems, or a closely related field.
  • 2 years of experience in audit, systems, or security analyst role, with at least one year in a dedicated security analyst role.
  • Licensing/Certification Requirements: CompTIA CySA+, CompTIA CASP+, ISC2 Security Certified Practitioner (SSCP), ISACA Certified Information Systems Auditor (CISA), Global Information Assurance Certification Security Essentials (GSEC), or other industry-recognized equivalent certification in cybersecurity.
  • Knowledge of system monitoring programs (SEIM), security protocols, risk assessment, networking fundamentals, and operating system fundamentals.
  • Skill in network and system security, vulnerability assessment, incident response, and security frameworks.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with cloud security and endpoint security practices.
  • Familiarity with zero trust concepts and practices.
  • Knowledge of compliance standards and security frameworks.
