About the position

The City of Laguna Beach is seeking a skilled and experienced Cyber Security Analyst to join their Information Technology team. This exciting new position involves advanced, specialized work related to threat detection and prevention, vulnerability management, security education, and incident response. The successful candidate will assess the current security landscape, make informed recommendations, and manage complex security projects and related programs. The role is critical in ensuring the integrity and security of the city's information systems and data. In this position, the Cyber Security Analyst will be responsible for implementing and managing security measures to protect the organization's computer systems and networks. This includes monitoring for security breaches, conducting vulnerability assessments, and developing security policies and procedures. The analyst will also provide training and support to staff on security best practices and will collaborate with other departments to ensure that security measures align with organizational needs. The work schedule for this position typically allows for remote work up to two days per week, depending on department needs. However, the analyst may be required to work evenings, weekends, and holidays in the event of after-hour tasks, breaches, or emergencies. This flexibility is essential to respond effectively to security incidents and maintain the security posture of the organization.

Responsibilities

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in computer science, information technology, or a directly related field.
  • Five (5) years of experience in a complex information technology systems environment.
  • At least two (2) years developing and implementing cyber information security systems.
  • A valid California Class C driver license with an acceptable driving record required by time of appointment and throughout employment.
  • Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP) or other related cyber security certificate is desirable.
