About the position

Snow College is seeking a highly skilled and motivated Cyber Security Analyst to join our Information Technology Services team. The successful candidate will play a critical role in protecting the college's digital assets, including servers, networks, and data. The Cyber Security Analyst will work together with the Information Security Officer (ISO) and Senior Security Analyst on the college's cybersecurity efforts, ensuring the safety and security of our information systems while fostering a culture of security awareness among employees and students. This position is essential in maintaining the integrity and confidentiality of the college's information systems and will involve a variety of tasks aimed at enhancing the overall security posture of the institution. The Cyber Security Analyst will be responsible for conducting regular internal audits to assess the effectiveness of security measures and preparing detailed reports for management. They will also develop and lead employee awareness programs on current cyber threats, ensuring that the college community is informed and vigilant. The role includes designing, implementing, and maintaining security systems and software to protect Snow College's digital infrastructure, as well as developing and enforcing security policies and procedures to safeguard college assets, including servers, networks, software, backups, and sensitive data. In addition, the Cyber Security Analyst will troubleshoot and respond to security issues related to user access, servers, networks, software configurations, and cloud systems. They will conduct regular scans of college computer systems to identify vulnerabilities and provide actionable recommendations to mitigate risks. The analyst will lead the Security Operations Center (SOC) team, supervising and training student workers, and responding promptly to security incidents, coordinating containment, eradication, and recovery efforts. Continuous monitoring of network traffic for potential threats and staying abreast of the latest cybersecurity trends and technologies will also be key responsibilities of this role.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct regular internal audits to assess the effectiveness of security measures and prepare detailed reports for management.
  • Develop and lead employee awareness programs on current cyber threats, ensuring the college community is informed and vigilant.
  • Design, implement, and maintain security systems and software to protect Snow College's digital infrastructure.
  • Develop and enforce security policies and procedures to safeguard college assets, including servers, networks, software, backups, and sensitive data.
  • Diagnose and resolve security issues related to user access, servers, networks, software configurations, and cloud systems.
  • Conduct regular scans of college computer systems to identify vulnerabilities and provide actionable recommendations to mitigate risks.
  • Lead the Security Operations Center (SOC) team, supervising and training 2 student workers.
  • Respond promptly to security incidents, coordinating containment, eradication, and recovery efforts.
  • Continuously monitor network traffic for potential threats, taking immediate action to neutralize threats and minimize impact.
  • Stay abreast of the latest cybersecurity trends/technologies and make informed recommendations to enhance the college's security posture.
  • Oversee the day-to-day operations of the SOC, providing guidance and training to student workers.
  • Perform additional job-related duties as assigned to support the college's cybersecurity objectives.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Cybersecurity, or a related field is preferred.
  • 2-5 years of experience in cyber security is preferred.
  • An Associate degree in a related field is required.
  • Strong knowledge of cybersecurity frameworks, standards, and best practices (e.g., NIST, ISO 27001, CIS Controls).
  • Hands-on experience with security tools and technologies (e.g., firewalls, intrusion detection systems, SIEM, antivirus/EDR, etc.).
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to think critically in high-pressure situations.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to explain complex security concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
